In the beginning God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. That would be so nice especially the day of rest! But the Bible also says to the Lord a day is like 1000 years so I a long ways to go.
Dr. Harvey Cushing is one way to say a start. I believe it was in the 1930s when he made
association between pituitary tumors and bodily and hormonal differences.
When I was diagnosed with Cushing's I called it a bad case of the uglies because of that unsightly changes it makes to a person's body even at the very start.
These include getting a very round face which is referred to as a moon face; truncial obesity which is where all your fat goes to your middle of your body especially the abdomen; women victims grow a beard and develop male pattern balding and muscle myopathy makes the arms and legs very thin.
These ugly characteristics made victims unwanted. The accompanying with this often made them able to work.
So Dr. Harvey hired away people from the circus: The Bearded Lady, the fat one and people like that. Since too much growth hormone is also a pituitary problem, he also hired away the giants. He offered them a place to live and food and a better life than they could have had continuing to travel with the circus but they had to let him experiment on them.
The surgery that he created of going up into the brain cavity to look for and take out tumors is basically still the major surgery that is being done.
